Computational seismology

We use state-of-the-art numerical techniques and modern high-performance computing in order to characterize 3D Earth structure and seismic sources.

Earth and Planetary Magnetism

We use both numerical simulations and direct observations to characterise how magnetic fields are generated in the Earth and other planets.

Exploration and Environmental Geophysics

We develop new methods for acquisition and processing of geophysical data for exploration and environmental applications.

Geophysical Fluid Dynamics

We apply state of the art numerical methods to study convection in the interiors of Earth and other terrestrial planets and moons.

Geothermal Energy and Geofluids

We investigate reactive fluid and geothermal energy transfer in the Earth's crust employing computer simulations, laboratory experiments, and field analyses.

Seismology and Geodynamics

We study Earth's dynamics at all timescales by investigating composition, structure, and state of the Earth’s interior.

Swiss Seismological Service

We monitor ongoing seismicity in Switzerland and its surroundings, and regularly assesses the seismic hazard in Switzerland.
